Procida, Italy

When visiting the southern coast of Italy, there are 3 notable islands: 1) Capri (the most famous and popular due to the Blue Grotto) 2) Ischia (large & beautiful) and 3) Procida. Procida is very small, authentic and known as the island of color, aka a photographer’s dream!

Given our trip comprised 10 days to explore Italy, we figured why not and opted to spend a day visiting Procida to start! We rode the ferry, which was a very simple and pleasant way to get to the island. Ferry trip prices vary depending on the time of day, which we found bizarre. Our morning fare was 2-3x our evening fare!

Full of color and lemon trees, Procida’s calm and explorable streets stole our heart.

The Marina di Corricella offers beautiful & iconic views of the island.

We stopped by Antica Pasticceria Cascone to taste the local treat of a “Lingue de Procida” or a lemon cream filled pastry. Stamp of approval!

Since we had a photoshoot coming up in a few days, we figured we’d find a local barbershop to give Steven a haircut. Little did we know this was the most happening industry in Procida! The first barber we visited was completely booked for the day and we took the only remaining 30 minute slot for the day from the second barber. They still log their appointments using good old fashioned pen & paper.

While Steven got his hair cut, I chatted it up with the next customer in line, who was very friendly and told us about how nice Procida was compared to other islands like Capri, where things are overpriced and catered entirely to tourists. He said that they bottle up the air and sell it as “the air of Capri".”

Made us feel great that we started our trip on the beautiful Isola di Procida <3 It was also an amazing haircut we must say!

Our lunch at Procida was one of my favorite meals in Italy at “Hook No Flag.” It’s an easy counter serve restaurant that makes all of its food completely fresh, never frozen. I got a “porkette” sandwich that I’m still currently dreaming about as it had this delicious eggplant, pork & mayo on a hot baguette. Wow, it was so flavorful and delicious! We also ordered a squid sandwich for Steven with tomato sauce, fries and a freshly squeezed lemon juice.

One day in Procida was just the perfect amount of time! Until next time ◡̈
